My name is Stan, I am 19 years old. Currently I am studying at a U niversity. I am the founder of the FB group which posted Cataclysm news since 8/23/09. I am playing WoW since the release of Burning Crusade. I like writing articles regarding Cataclysm. The most time I enjoyed playing was high-end TBC - Sunwell Plateau.

The upcoming expansion of the World of Warcraft franchise has begun with its Beta Testing. Before I start about the expansion itself, you may wonder how to access the BETA so...

How do I get in the BETA?

So first of all, Blizzard promised, everyone who subscribes for 12 months to receive a copy of Diablo III and apart from the Tyrael Charger also a guaranteed Mists of Pandaria Beta invite.

If you’re ineligible or haven’t used the Annual Pass, you have a rather little chance to enter BETA. Even people who subscribed to it, still haven’t received their invitations, because the invitations are sent out in waves, based on the time you subscribed to the Annual Pass as well as Account Seniority.

There is also still hope for you when you opt-in ! Under Games&Codes you go to Beta Profile Settings, submit your computer information and wait for a miracle to happen!

In the screenshot below you can see how it looks like (requires a Battle.Net account).

Will Pandaren and the Monks bring players back to Warcraft?

In my humble opinion, no. Even though Blizzard promised model updates, which are now in progress, the Monk could be the new death knight. Do you remember the early stages of Wrath of the Lich King, where the death knight, was too overpowered and with a holy paladin, practically unbeatable in arenas, earning mounts and gladiator titles at almost no cost? I really hope the same mistake won’t happen for the second time.

What’s with the new model updates?

They will be implemented in the future; now, it’s awkward, when you look at a human model, while some NPCs in the game look much better, just to name a few: Varian, Thrall (and the orc model), Jaina and the human female model, etc.

Just for comparison, in the pictures above, that’s how your orc character look like upon creation, while in the second picture, there’s Thrall’s updated orc model for Cataclysm.

The numbers do not lie

The subscriber numbers peaked around 12 million in late 2011 and since 2011, hey are on decline.

In May 2011, the base was down to 11.4 mil., then again down to 10.3 mil in Sept 2011.

The Annual Pass along with the renewed Scroll of Resurrection were brilliant strategic moves, but will it be enough to not let Warcraft die out?

After the first Q2012, Blizzard should once again announce, whether the subscriber numbers have stabilised or whether they’re still on the decline.

Veterans get nothing while newbies get a free 80

The Scroll of Resurrection is being heavily criticised by veteran players.

While they subscribe, without unsubscribing, players who have left World of Warcraft a long time ago receive a free level 80 character, faction change and other benefits.
It’s plausible whether this is fair or not, I mean of course; everyone has its same opinions on it.

I hope you enjoyed a few of my thoughts on the new expansion, and how it’s being dealt with by Blizzard.
